New Construction: Transforming an Old Barn
Witnessing the transformation of an outdated barn into a timeless space is one of the most gratifying experiences in the world of residential construction. We recently had the privilege of taking on such a project—a run-down barn in desperate need of remodeling. The challenge was clear: to upgrade this weathered structure and develop a space that smoothly combines functionality with modern design.
Goals & Purpose–Why Renovate?
Originally the client was renting out the apartment on the 2nd story. Here in Georgia, we had severe freezing temperatures, and the pipes in the barn were not well insulated, causing them to freeze and flood the barn loft apartment. Moving forward, the client wanted a solution. The barn was poorly constructed from the beginning. The quality of the building was degrading, and overall it was not properly built. Therefore our client decided to renovate the entire barn from top to bottom.
Clint Expectations
Our client knew what needed fixing and laid out their renovation goals. Their primary focus was repairing the plumbing and installing better insulation to prevent future plumbing issues. They also wanted a better layout for the apartment, focusing on making the most of the space and ensuring comfort. As far as the design, the client wanted a darker color for the exterior paint on the board and batten, wood accents, modern farmhouse-style light fixtures, and a well-laid-out apartment. We achieved just that!
Ultimately, our careful planning and hard work paid off, bringing about a significant change. The old barn has been replaced by a fully functional second-floor apartment featuring a modern kitchen, spacious living area, and smart storage solutions. We have added a laundry room closet in the bathroom and placed two closets on opposite sides of the hallway leading up to the bedroom, making the apartment even more convenient. Downstairs, the garage has been renovated with a barn-style garage door, providing ample storage space. This transformation goes beyond just construction—it's a testament to our dedication to revitalizing spaces and exceeding our clients' expectations.
